About Working Holiday in Korea

1) What is Working Holiday Program?

Working Holiday Maker scheme arims to promote international understanding through helping young people experience the culture of another country. It allows working holiday makers to have an extended holiday by supplementing their travel funds through incidental employment, and thus experience closer contact with a local community.
The working holiday visa enables youths of countries that have made working holiday agreements or memoranda with each other to undertake certain kinds of short term work during their stay and supplement their travel funds. The purpose of the program is to promote mutual understanding and exchanges between countries and provide the youth and opportunity to experience and understand diverse culture and lifestyles of partner countries. Korea initiated its Working Holiday Program first with Australia in July 1995, then with Canada in January 1996, and with Japan and New Zealand in April and May 1999 respectively.
Working Holiday makers are permitted to do any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature. As the main purpose of the visits is for holiday and travel, full time work for longer than three months with any one emplyer is not allowed.

The number of persons is limited to 1000 according to agreement between Korea and Japan now. However, we do not need to worry about the personnel limit since people who use this programme are few. Therefore, it is good opportunity to acquire the visa as long as there are not special reasons for disqualification.

There is an age limit (under 25). However, this is always not applied. That is to say, Even people over 25 can acquire the visa without any limit now.

1. Age for the qualification is full 18~25 and you haven¡¯t a need to support a family. (with the exception of the case that government extends an age limit to 30)
2. You should be of Japanese nationality.
3. You should consider that the purpose of a working holiday is taking a trip, experience and relaxation.
4. You should have funds for living.
5. The number of Working Holiday visa issued is limited every year. Issuing is completed when the number mounts up to a quota.

*You should not concentrate on working not traveling after entering.
